Domestic violence is a huge issue that is constantly unaddressed and feared by couples in the 21st century. Most of the time, couples don’t realize that this is an issue in their relationship until serious damage happens. Even after couples recognize it is an issue in their relationship they don’t think to put an immediate end to it. Abuse in relationships begin slowly, then get worse until they are irreversible. More people are starting to recognize that domestic violence is a serious issue, but don’t know how or why it forms. Domestic violence is commonly seen through the eyes of the victim, but no one really learns why the perpetrator is abusive. Eminem recognized the issue of domestic violence after he went through it for years with his ex-wife Kimberly Mathers. Since most people never understand both perspectives of relationship abuse, Eminem produced a song and music video called Love The Way You Lie in which he used his own relationship. Eminem used his perspective as the perpetrator along with his ex-wife’s as the victim to show both sides of an abusive relationship. Domestic violence is an ongoing cycle, but most people commonly mistake it as a one time thing. The domestic violence in a relationship will never stop until something is done to end it, that is why Eminem’s song and video are relatable to most abusive relationships because it conveys the ongoing cycle of abuse.
