Odysseus stays with Calypso for several years among his landing of the island. In the story no one leaves her island they all obey by her and they call it home. As Penelope still is loyal Odysseus is going around with Calypso and having sexual encounters. Greek marriages don’t work out the same as it is related to our times there is a lot of going off with the other person then there is staying with one. The greek fidelity is very wide spread for the subject no one is really loyal to their spouse and go off with someone else.
The book when it addresses the woman they are basically underclassmen by meaning they have to do whichever a man says. They are treated right when they do what they are told but when they don’t obey the task the men get a little bit rattled up. Woman aren’t really slaves they are just support and working heartful woman back in the greek times is how that he is trying to set it. In this time period the woman weren’t treated at there best of abilities that they should be treated but at the time no one saw it like that because it’s how it was for years.

In the book on how Odysseus is trying to get home and see his wife Penelope and get home so he can be home but it is hard to do that if Calypso will not let you leave because now you are home in her eyes. “My lady goddess, here is no cause for anger. My quiet Penelope—how well I know—would seem a shade before your majesty, death and old age being unknown to you, while she must die. Yet, it is true, each day I long for home, long for the sight of home.” (p.1209 L. 81,86). This is a quote that is showing and describing that how much that Odysseus wants to leave and get home to his wife. There has to be some good in the marriage and some means wanting to still have the respect and the heartfulness of the other person.
