Who or what is to blame for the tragic events in Macbeth? In the play Macbeth written by William Shakespeare there’re a series of tragic events caused by the following characters, The Witches through their prophecies which led to the murder of Macduff’s family and Banquo’s murder. Lady Macbeth because of her ambition led to Duncan’s murder, and her guilt led to her suicide. Macbeth because of ambition, greed, belief in the prophecies, corruption of power and love led to the murder of King Duncan, Banquo and Macduff’s family. These are all the reasons and things that caused the tragic events in the story of Macbeth.The Witches through their prophecies led to Macbeth committing murder of Macduff’s family and Banquo’s murder. The Witches caused nothing but trouble for Macbeth, his belief in them was so high it led to him becoming insecure.

They told Macbeth only part of what they could see. The main prophecies that led Macbeth to his greed and corruption was, ‘’beware Macduff thane of fife. ’’ Al he wanted was to be king due to his wife’s ambition, and her basically saying if you don’t stand up and kill Duncan you’re not man enough. ‘’No man born a woman can harm Macbeth.

’ Led to Macbeth thinking he was invincible, ‘’Macbeth you have nothing to fear until birnam wood comes to Dusinane Castle. ’’ Thinking he was safe, when he really wasn’t. The Witches and their prophecies were one of the main causes of the tragic events during the play of Macbeth. Lady Macbeth’s ambition and greed convinced Macbeth to kill King Duncan. ‘’But screw your courage to the stinking place, and we’ll not fail. ’’ Because of Macbeth’s love for his wife he felt compelled to stand up and do it, and gain his wife’s respect.

After the deed was done Lady Macbeth fell to guilt ‘’Out, damned spot! Out I say! ’ she started going crazy, sleep walking, and hallucinating blood spots on her hand. Asking herself, ‘’can’t thou not minister a mind diseased, pluck from the memory of a rooted sorrow. ’’ One of the same questions Macbeth has himself, although eventually Lady Macbeth couldn’t deal with the guilt, and took her own life. Lady Macbeth played a very big role in all the tragic events in the play of Macbeth.

His love for his wife, he was convinced to make a big move and Macduff’s family and King Duncan. He felt that if he didn’t do it he wasn’t a man. “If you durst do it thee you are a man” Macbeth was compelled to do it to earn the respect of his wife.

After being named King his belief in the prophecies had rise. It gave him confidence which really didn’t exist. “The Witches led Macbeth to thinking he was invincible and that nothing would stop him until birnam wood come to Dusinane Castle. ’ Macbeth’s ambition, love, corruption and belief in the prophecies led to the tragic events in the Macbeths play. The tragic events in the play of Macbeth were caused by many of the following things: The Witches and their prophecies, Lady Macbeth’s ambition, greed, and guilt, and Macbeth’s ambition, greed, love, belief and corruption of power. But I think the main cause was the Witches in their prophecies, after all they were the sole founder of Macbeth’s anger, ambition, greed and corruption.
