David Berkowitz (Son of Sam)
David Berkowitz was born June 1, 1953, in Brooklyn, New York, (His birth name was actually Richard David Falco). Berkowitz was better known as Son of Sam a serial killer, murdering 6 people and harming 7 people in New York from 1976 to 1977. His next-door-neighbor, Sam Carr, had a black Labrador retriever called Harvey, whom Berkowitz believed pleaded with him to kill. He also saw Sam Carr as a dominant demon and was referring to him when he later called himself Son of Sam and his justification was that he obtains orders of a demon that lived in a canine. He was acknowledged as the .44 Caliber Killer.

David Berkowitz’s mother was identified as Elizabeth Broder before Berkowitz was born. In 1936, Broder was married to Tony Falco. After 4 years of marriage, he left her for another woman. A decade later about began an affair with a married man name Joseph Klineman. Three years later she gave birth to a baby where she chose to give the surname Falco. After a few days of Berkowitz birth for reason unknown, she decided to give her child away.

Pearl and Nathan Berkowitz raised the baby boy and gave him their surname and name him David Richard Berkowitz. Although, of above average intelligence his childhood was very problematic and more with a hyperactivity then he lost interest in school. He was known as a bully and a spoiled kid. His adoptive parents did take him once to a psychotherapist due to his mischiefs ways. At age of 14 David’s mother Pearl was diagnosed with cancer and sadly she did not win that battle with cancer. This took a toll on Berkowitz and his relationship with his father became distant after he remarried.

David at 17 years in 1971, joined in the U.S. Army and his tour in the military took him to Korea. He was discharged in 1974 with an Honorable Discharge and at about the same time he located his birth mother Betty. After a few visits with Betty, she disclosed his illegitimate birth and his adoption. Berkowitz with this knowledge became very disturbed and especially with the lack of a father figure. Psychologists believe this was the primary crisis for Berkowitz which lead him to lose his sense of identity. His communication with his mother came to a halt but he did continue to have contact with his half-sister Rosalyn. He had odd jobs and at his time of arrest, he was working for the postal service as a letter sorter. When he discovered out because he was given in adoption, he chose to broke bonds with his mother and sister. In agreement with his statements with the officials, he declared that at a party he met some subjects who introduced him to the satanic cult. there are several kinds of research on this case; the most important investigation is on the detective Robert Ressler considers that the vast majority of these stories are not more than that, inventions of the same defendant used to get the attention of the public. According to David’s testimony, he declares that his initial assault was two young ladies with a knife, both victims survived the attacks. For none of these episodes was accused and are more anecdotal than anything else.
