This investigation will investigate the significant connections in the Aspect of New Zealand masculinity. The four texts that will be investigated are “Making Good Men” Directed by Fiona Apanui, “The Dark Horse” Directed by James Napier Robertson, and “Boy” and “Tow Cars One Night”, both directed by Taika Waititi. In each of these four texts, it portrayed how male or young men are in a lot of pressure to be in the best physical condition possible. The idea of masculinity seems to be related to the picture of a perfect man with courage and physical and emotional toughness. These four texts show how the characters in the text overcome expectation of masculinity and their view on life and society in different ways, and have different opinions on how life should be lived. These views are often suggested to the viewers through their actions. This investigation will look at the way in which these texts show connections involving aspect of New Zealand masculinity. These connections are the effects of New Zealand’s society on men. This connection also shows how men in New Zealand are notoriously self-contained and private, being reluctant to talk about their personal feelings and highly embarrassed at the thought that any private emotional difficulties they might be experiencing could be exposed to critical examination. We profoundly know that this texts are based on New Zealand because of the characters and locations sets. These four texts primarily focus on the Maori men instead of Pakeha.
