Being punctual is important for numerous reasons, all of which can be applied to both military and civilian life, as well as your work life and social life. I think it is important because it shows that you have respect for others. If someone is consistently late to events it shows others around them that they have little or no respect for others and their time. Time is a valuable thing and it should be viewed as such.

If a person has commitments and responsibilities involving others, they should realize that others time is just as important as their own.Someone that is consistently late shows others that they believe their time is more valuable than others. Also by being late a person disrupts all the others involved in the event, which is also very inconsiderate and disrespectful. For instance, in my situation, showing up to formation late, even if it was only two minutes shows a lack of respect for not only my noncommissioned officers but also my fellow soldiers by making them wait on my arrival. If I had been on time, our formation would have begun sooner, in turn making the event in which we were there for end sooner.

By being on time I would have demonstrated that I care about others time as much as I care about my own, instead I chose to waste the time of others which is very disrespectful to everyone else that was present for the formation. Another reason that being on time is important is because it shows that a person is responsible, credible, and dependable. It shows that someone honors their commitments and understands that being late can negatively affect how others view them. Being late can give an impression of being rude, irresponsible, self centered, and undependable.Someone that is consistently on time shows that they care about the impressions others have of them. It shows that they take pride in whatever task they are given and that they can be depended on to complete the task at hand. If someone is consistently late it shows that they have poor time management skills.

If someone cannot be responsible enough to show up on time, how can they be seen as someone responsible enough to complete other tasks that carry more responsibility. As someone new to our company I should have considered this.My actions have set a negative impression of myself for my fellow soldiers and my NCOs’. Instead of being viewed in a good light it may be possible that I am seen as someone that is irresponsible and undependable. If I am unable to manage my time effectively and be on time, others may have the impression that I am not responsible enough to do my job efficiently and correctly.

In turn that impression could affect my career for a long period of time. Along with being respectful and responsible, being on time also means that you are more likely to know what is going on.Most of the time, the beginning of a meeting or a formation for that matter may be used to put out important information. Information in which leaders think is pertinent. If someone is late to a formation or meeting they run the risk of not getting the information put out or getting a misconstrued version from a fellow person. Without proper information that person is more likely to be late again and again starting a cycle that may be hard to break. As someone in the military this is something that should be avoided.

A cycle of not being in the right place at the right time could lead to punishment such as UCMJ, extra duty, and in some scenarios a separation from the army. Being on time also sets a good example for others, if someone is late without punishment it may be seen as appropriate behavior by others, making is seem okay to others to be late as well. If this cycle were to continue, eventually everyone would be late.

As a soldier in the army, being punctual is very important. Being late shows a lack of discipline and can directly affect our army values that strive to live by each and every day.The first army value is loyalty. The definition of this army value is bear true faith and allegiance to the U. S. constitution, the Army, and other soldiers.

By being on time you are following this value, on the contrary, being late does not follow this value. By not being punctual you are not bearing faith to the army or your fellow soldiers. They depend on each and every soldier to be reliable and dependable. If they are consistently late they do not meet these standards
