The resolution in Catcher in the Rye is when Holden saw how much fun his sister was having on the carousel. He started to cry as he saw her laughing and smiling. He realized that he needed to become an adult and that he was ready. This made him go back to school and live his life to the fullest.
The significance of the Title:
The significance of the title is that the Catcher in the Rye was what Holden wanted to do with his life. He wanted to help children save their innocence for as long as they could. Holden didn’t want them to have to grow up too fast and to live their life to the fullest. He wanted to make sure that they didn’t make the same mistakes that he did.
Main theme:
The main theme in Catcher in the Rye is innocence. Holden wants to protect his innocence since he doesn’t want to become an adult. Holden wants to help save people’s innocence and so he looks out for his friends. His little sister is the main person he looks out for. When she wanted to go away with him he said no because he didn’t want her to lose her innocence. As he saw her enjoying herself on the carousel he realized that it was time for him to grow up.
Culture:
The culture back in the 1950’s was very traditional. However, it was shocking that people didn’t care that a seventeen-year-old boy was just traveling alone and was hanging out with older women. He also was able to drink alcohol several times in the story without having to show his identification. This helped progress the story along since Holden wanted to keep his innocence, however, he was doing adult things like drinking alcohol and having strippers sent to his room.
