The Civil War took place in 1942 when Charles I raise his Royal Standard in Nottingham. The split between Charles and Parliament was such that neither side was willing to back down over principles that they held, and war was inevitable as a way in which all problems could be solved. The country was split into those who supported the King and those who supported Parliament. I am going to explain why I think Charles I is to blame for the cause of the Civil War.
He had closed Parliament and had to think of ways of how to get money without asking the Parliament’s help. He had used old laws like “Ship Money” which was a special tax to help the navy but instead of helping the navy, he used the money on benefit is rich living style. This made him very unpopular amongst his subjects. Another reason for how the King started the war, the way he handled religion. Although he despised the Catholic way of teaching and Catholic people, he married a Catholic woman called Henrietta Maria Of France. A young girl just aged 15 when she married Charles I
