Sharing information Ensure regular observations of each individual child to study, scrutinise and making sure of their safety. These will help plan future play activities so they will be stimulated and extend their child’s learning and development.Identifying their strengths or weaknesses early so if any concerns can be passed on to parents regarding their child’s development. Children can become unwell very quickly without warning and illnesses, allergies need immediate medical attention right away, Should ensure that training is up to date and have first aid qualification and renew it every three years so you know the correct response and procedure. If a child develops infectious illnesses you have to inform the Childs parents to come and collect them as soon as possible.
It is also the child minders full responsibility to inform other parents of the other children that a child has become unwell with an infection, because you have the responsibility also of the other children’s health and safety and to provide a safe and healthy environment. Have in place a policy for illnesses explaining your responsibility to the sick child, other children, the carer, the parents and also members of the carer’s family. This will reduce future conflict between carers and parents.
Keep good communication and relationship with parents to fully understand each child’s individual needs, i. e. Allergies, medical conditions, medication, specific needs and diet requirements. Ensure a clear understanding and have the correct information details from parents,i. e.
Addresses, phone numbers, names of family members and what’s their relationship to the child and who will be picking them up in an emergency and what are their contacts should an emergency occur.To avoid hazards and accidents occurring put measures in place for example. Fire guards, safety gates to block off areas that are not child safe.
To avoid children touching dangerous appliances, equipment put in place safety socket covers, locks on cupboards, drawers, cooker, and washing machine. Do not use blinds with cords to avoid strangulation and have ponds covered or in a restricted area to avoid a child draining. Have a checklist in place for each room and regularly risk assesses each room for possible threats.Keep all main doors locked to prevent a child escaping and intruders entering however keep keys in an easy obtainable place out of reach of children but in case of an emergency. Fit smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors on every level of your setting and test them regularly.
Have a clear emergency plan in place if an emergency should occur, and ensure emergency exits are kept clear at all times. Talk to children and explain the clear dangers of what can happen when an emergency could occur, but at the same time don’t make them scared when talking to them.Do regular fire drills with the children so they understand how to stay and be calm should an emergency occur. By carrying out regular risk assessments will eliminate threats to the children’s safety in what rooms they are allowed access to. Regularly evaluate your surroundings, equipment and environment.
Put in place polices when required and also procedures to deal with possible risks and threats to a child’s safety and well-being, produce a safety checklist for each room.If an accident does occur look at you’re the setting and reassess the problem. Keep records, notes up to date record it down each time in to an accident book. Ensure food is stored at the right correct temperature and is stored on the correct shelves in the fridge. Use equipment correctly so not to cross contaminate.
Taking a hygiene training course and having a food hygiene certificate in place is a good way of showing you have high standards of practice and so this will also reassure parents and carers. Ensure setting i. e. itchen, bathroom, equipment and toys are clean regularly disinfected especially in the food areas. Its good idea to teach children the importance of washing hands before meals, after toilet and after touching animals.
As a carer you should regularly clean your own hands so you do not transmit When children come in contacted with animals the cares supervision is vital at all times. For hygiene reasons keep animals food bowls, bedding out of reach of children, regular checks in garden for waste and dispose effectively and hygienically. Keep animals out of food areas.
