One of the most commonly known issues with Zoos are that they have multi-animal enclosures which can be dangerous to the animals if you don’t keep to their recommended enclosure size, animal grouping sizes and ensuring that the animals that are in the multi-animal enclosures are not territorial or aggressive in any way to the other species within the enclosure. In the book Institution, S. (1995) Ethics of the Arc discusses the reason why Zoos commonly close this is due to the animals not being in the correct requirements for their species, the Zoo then doesn’t have enough funding to change this then loose the animals and then the publicity. Some books (Institution, S. 1995) mention that multi-animal enclosures are never big enough for the animals in the enclosure, while the animals are in groupings that affect their social behavior with their species and other species. Both of the books that I read said that these aren’t suitable permanent enclosures as they can affect the behavioral traits of the animals and can cause permanent damage to the animals.
