“Observation focuses on what can be seen or heard-the behaviors of people” (Dudley, 2011, p.173). The technique used for the paper will be observational research, According to Dudley (2011), observational research is applicable to social work research due to the information that Social workers gather through their observational skills when working with clients. Social workers are trained how to identify different behaviors while meeting with a participant(s). Behavior can variety from verbal, non-verbal expressions, body language, dialogues, and physical interaction among individuals. Nevertheless using all of these senses, Social worker(s) practice observation research to accumulate qualitative data. There are two methods of observational research known as structured and unstructured observations. “Structures observation is usually deductive in nature and attempts to find support for something or to cast unstructured use of qualitative methods in order to record behaviors and gather data. This form of observational research is typically used in order to revisit past research and/or gain a new insight that may not gathered through quantitative data.
