Like Water for Chocolate came from the Spanish phrase Como agua para chocolate, which is a very common expression in the Spanish-speaking countries where it means that one is very angry. The book has 12 chapters where each was named after the months, January to December. Each chapter begins with different kinds of recipe where each dish is connected on what happens to the protagonist life (Tita).
