Kevin Rudd is an Australian politician and he was the 26th Prime Minister of Australia.
Kevin Michael Rudd was born on 21 September 1957 in Queensland to Albert Rudd and Margaret nee De Veer. His father was a share farmer. He grew up on a dairy farm. In this farm life he got opportunity to learn horse riding and gun shooting. When he was 11, his father died. After his father’s death his family was forced to leave the farm because of financial difficulty.
In 1981 Kevin Rudd married Therese Rein and they have three children, Jessica was born in 1984, Nicholas born in 1986, and Marcus born in 1993.
Kevin Rudd went to Eumundi Primary School, Marist College Ashgrove and he attended at Nambour State High School in Queensland. He graduated from the high school in 1974. Following he studied art at Australia National University in Canberra. He graduated with first degree honour from the University in 1981. There he majored in Chinese history and he learned to speak Mandarin.
Kevin Rudd was active in politics when he was very young. When he was 15 years he joined the Labour party. In 1981 Rudd joined the Department of Foreign Affairs as diplomat. He served there for seven years. He was ambassador in Stockholm in Sweden and later in People’s Republic of China in Beijing. He returned to Australia in 1988 and he was appointed Chief of Staff to Queensland from 1989 until 1992. Rudd was elected to the Parliament and he was promoted to the Labour Party as shadow Minister. Kevin Rudd became Australia’s Prime Minister on 24 November 2007 and he served until 2010 in this post. His first act as Prime Minister was signing Kyoto Protocol on Climate change. Following he made a formal apology to the Indigenous stolen generation. He also gave his support to the East Timor. He stated that Australian troops would remain there as long as East Timor wanted them too. He also helped and gave his support to Kosovo to become independent from Serbia.
He took China to task over human right abuses in Mandarin. He prevented and saved Australia from falling in to recession during the global financial crisis in 2008 and 2009.As a result he saved hundreds of thousand Australians jobs. He doubled Australia foreign aid during five years. He made Australia seven largest aid donor in the world.
In 2010 Kevin Rudd lost in caucus ballot to Julia Gillard and he was removed from his post. After that, he was appointed as foreign Affair Minister in Gillard government. He worked in this position from 2010 until 2012.
On 26 June 2013 Kevin Rudd challenged again Julia Gillard and he defeated Gillard. He became the leader of Labour Party and Prime Minister for second time. After three months he and his party suffered decisive loss to the Liberal National Party in the general election. After he lost his position as Prime Minister he retired from Parliament and announced that, he would step down as party leader.
