I feel there is not one specific definition of indigenous people or indigenous religion, there are several characteristics, many people involved, a part of different groups spreading all across the world. It was stated in our text that, “Indigenous spirituality is a lifeway, a particular approach to all of life.” Indigenous religion can refer to any group of people, culture, and it is beliefs, thoughts, and scared ways which have been passed down from their ancestors. Indigenous religion is a specific path to one’s life, no one things can make up their lifestyle, and most of the lifeway’s are shared or passed orally and it continues to be passed down from generation to generation.

Nature of God

Through the indigenous religion they do see necessarily see the world, or life as underone Supreme God like the other religions, since it is the continuance of different beliefs or cultures which have been passed down. They live day to day, some believe in God, other have their own values and beliefs they abide by, it depends on how it is viewed by that person , and it is seen as spirits and a natural being.

View of Human Nature

They feel that everything is alive and has a spirit; regardless if is a human, animals, rocks or trees. This religion focusses on animistic beliefs that everything is nature is alive, and also has a spirit. They believe in Mother Natures, who provides the bounty of the earth.

View of Good and Evil

Good and Evil I feel will always exist no matter what we do, and it can be seen as a lesson learned or source of reflection when one recognizes their actions. Indigenous religion is passed down from generation to generation , the continuance of different beliefs, cultural traits, and the way to live life, and good and evil can be different depending on what one knows or how they were brought up in what to believe.

View of Salvation

I feel the indigenous source of salvation, and way of rescuing and saving is through their different practices and rituals, such as dances, songs, everyone coming together, or a moment to the self and reflect.

View of After Life

Since indigenous religion is passed down from ancestor to ancestors, everything isalways connected to them, and their life is continued since beliefs and values are continued. There is a view on afterlife, spirits, and cultural beliefs continued to be passed on.

Practices and Rituals

The ingenious people have many practices, rituals, and have several ways to stay interactive and connected with their life following their beliefs. As stated in our textbook “Instead, the people create and pass on songs, proverbs, myths, riddles, short sayings, legends, art, music, and the like. This helps to keep the indigenous sacred ways dynamic and ?exible rather than fossilized. It also keeps the sacred experience fresh in the present. Oral narratives may also contain clues to the historical experiences of individuals or groups, but these are often carried from generation to generation in symbolic language”.(Fisher, 2013 Page 36) The indigenous people enjoy storytelling, and are one of their scared forms of art. The rituals they practice are a way to restore them, and just a good calming for the people.

Celebrations and Festivals

The people of the indigenous religion have many ceremonies, celebrations, and festivals, it is a way to easy to mind ,a way to connect, and be in free of the spirit .The indigenous people practice Sun Dancing which is a way of self-sacrifice. It stated it the text, “Sacri?cing oneself for the sake of the whole is highly valued in most indigenous traditions. Through puri?cation ceremonies, the people attempt to break through their small selves in order to serve as clear vehicles for the energy of the Great Spirit.” ( Fisher,2013 Pg56)
