In Matthew 27
In Matthew 27:45-56 tells Matthew’s version of the events and how Jesus died. The story starts out at high noon and there was very much darkness out from much into the day as well. Jesus tried to call out with a probable gloomy face and tried to reach out to a man named Elijah, calling him for all that man has sinned for. (Matthews 27:46-48). Jesus recites “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”, he is crying out as a normal reaction of someone who is suffering for the benefits of the people in the future as he was dying, he knew that the reason he felt such great pain was that since he was suffering he knew that he was given our sins and he was willing to die for them. So, in Matthew 27:45-56 Jesus is portrayed as the son of god who knew that he placed himself in this situation to take the sins of the sinners and that god did this for the said sinners and also that portrayed as a man who gave up his own life to safe the countless believers who had sinned. “Truly this man was God’s Son!” was what people said out loud as the world crumbled after Jesus died (Matthew 27:54). In Luke 23:44-53, the story of the death of Jesus seems to be shorter in contextual text with it not focusing on portraying him as a child of god who is agony of the weight of the plethora of sins he is carrying instead as a person disciples who is allowing god to do what he thinks is right. In this scripture “Father, into your hands commend my spirit”, we see him putting his faith into god’s hands as to say that he trusts god to do what is best for his journey (Matthew 23:46). He is in a sense is giving up his life on earth and people like the centurion knew right then and there that he was definitely wasn’t a man with a guilty title to his name and you could tell that Jesus portrayed and really was important to the people who watched his crucified go down as after it happened, people went into sorrow and misery in their homes.
The similarity and the differences between the two different points of views of what happened before, during, and after his death is not really much difference. First, the one similarity in both scriptures had been that each started around noon and that darkness conveyed over the land till it was three o’clock in the afternoon. Without metnintoon the meat between the sandwich (the difference in this part of the story) both stories towards portray Jesus by the records of a centurion and people who watched all that had just happened, acknowledged that in fact that this man couldn’t have done wrong as he had to be god’s son. For the most part. Both stories were very similar in what happened on that faithful day, but both did have their differences in what Jesus called out to God before he did die and the events that happened after he breathed his last words. The main difference in both scriptures is that in Matthew 27:46 Jesus says, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” in this case he is calling out in agony to God as he knows that he knew he would be crucified for the sins of the sinners in the world for his fathers wishes and faithfully gave his self for it. Then in the following everything from the temple and the tombs to the rocks on the earth tore apart to which people came out to the people in the city. Had we not read Matthew scriptures we wouldn’t have not known the destruction that Jesus’ death had caused to the world. Then in Luke 27:44-53, Jesus is portrayed differently as he seen as a Jesus who has given up his life and his spirit and has decided to have god decide what is best for him.
The significance of the similarities and difference early on was that Jesus asked to make disciple of multiple nations and teaching the everything about the name of the father, holy spirit and of the son (Matthew 28: 19-20). In the first and second centuries Christianity is spreading, and most Christians preach different gospels, and live in different communities. The early church together come up with the bible in the 4th century to a degree which some people called heretics disagree and create their own churches. Just like todays world theological disputes create a division in Christianity to a point where people create and join other churches based on their beliefs (lecture week 8). The similarities and difference in the word of god caused the development to branch onto a variety of different churches that believed their own church was the correct one to follow.
Essay 2 prompt 2
Each religion has it own sets of rules and beliefs that they know they need to follow. Just like our story has a beginning to it and it is being written everyday while we are on this earth, there are religions who started from the very beginning of time and each have their own story that was written and still is being written to this day. Both the laws of Menu and Genesis have their story but also like some religions their story is being composed of a variety of people in the early centuries that is compiled together for us to learn about. As well each one has their own ideas and goals on how we should live in this world and the role we need to be in it as well.
In Christianity we consider Genesis which is written and placed first in any Christian bible to be the story that tells everyone of our creation. God created everything from the sky and the earth to darkness on the earth. He wanted there to be light, so he created light to be a divider between the darkness and he placed this darkness into the timeframe we call night and placed the light into the timeframe we all call the day (Creation Stories in the Book of Genesis, Genesis 1). He then created earth to where he made sure there was separate places for dry land to settle on and to where the water, we now call oceans to settle in a place. He continues in the second day of creation to create vegetation, plants, trees of every kind and placed it on earth and came the night and concluded the second night. (Genesis 1). He created the all the creatures we consider to be water animals along with birds in the sky and he created every living animal that roams or lives on the dry land part of earth. Finally, he created us humans in his image and we were claimed superiority on earth.
In the Laws of Manu, the self-existing Lord created the waters first created from within his semen (Laws of Manu, page 12). After he had lived inside the egg for a whole year, the Lord split the egg by hatching his own body and with these two halves he created the earth and the sky. With all things composed of three attributes and the five sensory objects along with the particles of his body came the creation of all beings (Laws of Manu, page 14). The lord created both good and evil such as Dharma (right) to Adharma (wrong) and tied the emotions of pain and pleasure to the creatures as well. As each are being created and created, all creatures are made for a single purpose that they are given that task when they are created and is glued to that task forever. This is to say that some Hindu’s feel as though they are on this earth to do their task to the best of their abilities.
The two creation narratives are different in that their own respectful creation stories they are created to do different things and the freedom in which they have. In the Genesis the nature of the world we live in allows Christians to have the freedom to choose their journey under God’s commands and doesn’t say in the book that they have to stick with one way of living. What I mean, is that Christians were placed on the earth from the beginning in his image and they were given power from the start as well. In the Laws of Manu, the nature of the world was that the self-existing lord was already predicting the activities that Hindu’s would be placed on the earth to do and it was with them way after they were created. In Genesis the roles of humans in that world was for them to be expanded and fill the earth with everything that was created with them and for them to have the power over everything in the seas, the birds in the sky, and everything that was placed on the dry land of earth (Genesis 1). While in the Laws of Manu the roles for humans are pre-determined as each creature is required to do the role, they are assigned from creation to their death, perhaps beyond through dharma. (Laws of Manu page 14-15). The creation narratives mostly differentiated from the facts that Christians were given the opportunity to wield their power of freedom and superiority along with the path god had given them and Hindu’s are given a set of placed instructions that their self-existing lord gave to them as their story he already created.
