In “If Black English Isn’t a Language
In “If Black English Isn’t a Language, Then Tell ME, What Is?”, by James Baldwin, Baldwin talks about how language isn’t just a way to communicate, it’s also a way to classify people from their parents, school, youth, and even social backgrounds. He says that black is a real language just as much as any other language. He describes French and says that there are different ways to speak French. He concludes his sentence by stating, ” although the ‘common’ language of all these areas is French”(157). What Baldwin is saying is that there are different ways to speak different languages so why is it so different for “black language”.
