In 610 C.E., a local merchant was able to create and spread the religion of Islam, a religion that 1.8 billion people follow today. Within 140 years of Islam’s birth, its followers had vastly ruled the Middle East, spreading across North Africa and into Europe. Islam’s instantaneous expansion had led to the rise of a common question: Why did Islam spread so quickly? The most logical answer is that Islam spread quickly as a result of trade, conquest, migration, and resistance.

Islam spread quickly due to trade, as the Byzantine and Persian Empire, both a part of the Islamic Empire, had set up trade routes throughout the Arabian Peninsula.
