Step 1
To make this amazingly beautiful Princess Cake you will need:
A doll
A round and a bowl shaped cake
Simple syrup
1 quantity of buttercream or Italian meringue
A cake board or cake stand
A large knife
Red gel color
Large ziploc bags for piping & scissors to cut bags
White or pink sprinkles or silver cachous
Vanilla Cake Recipe
Actually this recipe is for cupcakes (you will get twenty of them). If you are going to make the Princess Cake make sure you double this recipe.
3 large eggs
120g or 1/2 cup plus 2 tsp margarine or butter
1 1/2 cups sugar
2 Tbsp oil
2 1/4 cups or 360g flour
3 1/2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
1 1/4 cups milk (4% fat)
1 Tbsp vanilla essence
1.Use an electric mixer to combine the butter, oil and sugar. Make sure you beat the mixture on high speed for at least 3 minutes. Stop beating when it gets pale and fluffy. Add all the other ingredients and beat on low speed for about a minute.
2.Get a round cake tin and pour the mixture into it and spread to the sides. Then put the remaining mixture into an ovenproof mixing bowl.
3.Preheat the oven to 180ºC (356ºF), then place both cakes into the oven and bake at moderate temperature until ready (when a skewer inserted in the centre of the cake comes out clean).
Tip: When the cake in the mixing bowl seems to be ready (the inserted skewer is still gooey) put it on the bottom shelf. Place an empty baking tray on the top shelf to ensure the cake’s top doesn’t get burnt.
Simple Syrup Recipe
100g or 1/3 cup plus 2 Tbsp sugar
1/3 cup plus 1 Tbsp water
Optional – 1 Tbsp vanilla
Pour water into a small saucepan, add sugar and heat the mixture stirring until sugar is dissolved. Keep heating until the water boils. When the syrup is ready remove it from heat, let it cool down, then pour the syrup into squeezy bottle.
Step 2.
1.Let your cakes cool completely because buttercream will melt on warm cakes.
2.Now you need to shape the bowl cake to resemble a flowing hooped skirt. Put the cake flat side down and slice off the bulging round bits at the top edge. Then cut the cake twice to make 3 layers.
3.Cut the other cake into two layers. Using a round cookie cutter make a circle in the centre of each cake layer.
4.Before you start forming the cake you need to brush each layer with syrup. Then spread buttercream on the layers and stack. Coat the cake with buttercream and put it in the fridge to harden.
5.When the buttercream in the cake has firmed up you may start making ruffle using pink and plain buttercream. Fill one ziplock bag with pink buttercream and the other with plain buttercream. Pipe a ruffle with plain buttercream around the base of the cake. Then add a pink ruffle starting just above the line you just finished. Keep making ruffles up to the top of the cake.
6.Take your doll and arrange the hair how you want it to be. Place the legs of the doll in plastic wrap.
7.Pipe some buttercream onto the body of the doll to create bodice style of your choice. Then carefully place the doll into the center of the cake. Hide the gaps at the waist by a small frill made of pink buttercream. Enjoy your amazing Princess Cake!
