Fear, violence, and anger brought on by racism all provide the foundation of the story “Nightwalker” by Brent Staples. Staples initiates his point of view by introducing the audience into thinking he is committing a crime, but reveals how the actions taken towards him are because of the fear determined to his labelled stereotypes of being rapists, gangsters and muggers.
