In previous years, McDonald’s change its ways of processing to track the production of beef through a supply chain as part of a trial in some part of the world its operate. The purpose of this practice was that McDonald’s purchase most of the beef from Canadian farms and improve the Corporate Social Responsibility in Canada. McDonald’s were also looking for ways to implement a process which meet with Global Roundtable for Sustainable Beef (GRSB) principles and after knowing that the process was not good enough to meet the current standards end up affecting the Natural resources, the community, Animal Health, Food Safety and Innovation of McDonald’s.
In 2014, McDonald’s experienced bad news or scandal in Asia by a local reporter who exposed them that 3,000 out of date chicken ; beef had been sold to McDonald’s. Due to concerns, McDonald’s decided to continue to purchase the beef with the same supplier which was met with initial declining sales. They instead chose to use a different processing plant with the supplier. Their reason was that the beef meat of their supplier was quality than that of other local suppliers of chicken. They decided to get their chicken supply from Thailand as there were no suitable alternative on the table for them to follow and this affected their profits margin as the keep on looking for better ways to sort out the chicken supply. This solution was not the best and last solution but at least its kept business going on which is better than closing the whole operation which will lead to loss of customers.
