It will also identify the specification of each computer for each section of the company and what peripherals will be used.

 The various parts of your organisation that require I.T. support and training are also highlighted in this report.

Because of the intensive 3D modelling that the designers would be producing, a fast Processor and specialist Graphics Card were fitted.  The hard drive used has also been chosen for high capacity and spin speed for fast retrieval of large files.

 A large flat panel monitor was also specified for increased viewing which is essential for this type of work and for space saving. When choosing the memory I decided for a 1GB PC800 ECC Rambus RDRAM memory module this leaves two RIMM slots free for later expansion. This type of memory has a high bandwidth and runs at the same speed as the 400MHz system bus.

 The speed of the processor chosen is adequate for the type of work that will be performed on the laptop and features advanced power management for extending the battery life. The hard drive chosen is of a large enough size as most of the files can be transferred to a desktop computer via the docking port or alternatively saved to CDR using the CD-RW Drive fitted.For details of information sources see Appendix A 3 Ancillary Equipment3.1 PrintersA HP LaserJet 8550 A3 Colour Laser printer has been chosen for proofing of documents by the designers before been sent to the production section and for every day documents produced by the other sections.

This will ensure that all data on the network is kept secure and also prevent software errors and data loss occurring through improper shut down procedures.  Emphasise will also have to be placed on the correct directory to be used to save all-important work. Full training will also be given on the importance of daily backups been performed with the specified tape backup, although this would probably be carried out by the ICT engineer, it would be of greater security to the business if more than one person was fully trained in this area. One more area of training, which is of importance, is Health and Safety.

This would be introduced to highlight the correct positioning of the workstations to be used. This would include the correct height and angle of the monitor to reduce eyestrain. Proper positioning of the keyboard, and the correct height and angle of the chair been used.6 Network Resources Plan I have decided to place all the network resources in the main central office area in the room where the printer will be stationed.

This will be a star topology.This will include the File Server, two 24-port hubs for each half of the office, the patch panel and the UPS Power Supply.The cabling will be run under the floor to each socket fitted into the floor, which a workstation can be connected to. 7 Supplier Evaluation and SelectionThe choosing of a supplier is an important decision and one that could in the long run cost more to the business than first anticipated. I will try and highlight different areas of this process, that can affect your decision, and hopefully this will achieve the aims required.

7.1 ReputationThis is an important factor when choosing a supplier. Has the supplier got a good reputation? If possible talk to existing customers and ask their opinion.7.

2 Quality componentsMake sure that the supplier is using good quality components and that they are matched well with each other. It might be a good idea at the time to go with the cheapest quote, but if the components used are of inferior quality then they will probably fail much quicker and so will cost the business money in computer down time and the cost of replacing the components. 7.3 WarrantyIt is essential that the systems bought come with a good warranty. Make sure that the supplier offers a good standard warranty. If possible this should at a minimum include onsite repairs and cover parts and labour. Look to see if the supplier offers more comprehensive warranties that give better response time i.

e. 24 hours 7 days a week repairs service with possibly a quick onsite response time of 5 hours. This for a business is more essential than the basic warranty, which is usually targeted at the home market.

7.4 After sales service This is probably the most important factor to consider. Make sure that the company has a good past record of after sales service. This should include courtesy follow up phone calls to see if every thing is all right, and prompt response to problems that might occur. A company might offer a good warranty on paper but if they don’t follow up their promises then the warranty is not worth the paper it is written on.
