INTRODUCTION
Background of the Study
Physical facilities is one of the major needs to operate a University. It stands as a workplace of the teaching and non- teaching staff and a place that student really needs. Physical plan and facilities include school campus, building and other physical infrastructure, equipment and services that complement institution and program effectiveness.
The Pangasinan State University -Lingayen Campus is a public higher educational institution. It is expected that there is a massive number of enrollees. The physical facilities of any university should be clean, comfortable and safe that foster good learning environment and meet the operational needs for all. The students and the maintenance should keep the comfort rooms, classrooms, faculty rooms, pathways, and other facilities of the university to be safe from any danger and comfortable to be in. Through the years, the university rapidly developed its physical facilities within the university. As of now there are on-going building of a five-storey Golden Lion Hotel.The university also had built some buildings like Legacy Building, Science Laboratory Building. It has also developed the Convention Hall, Covered Court, Comfort Rooms, and some Faculty Rooms. There is a massive development in the university in terms of physical facilities that is why the researches r are interested to conduct a this study. This study will inform the students about the status of physical facilities of the University and will lead them to be more aware of the responsibilities on taking extra care of the different facilities that the University has. It may also inform Pangasinan State University ‘s Administration about the facilities they have that needs attention improvement or renovation.
The researchers would like to conduct this study to gain more knowledge and to know the satisfaction of the physical facilities in Pangasinan State University -Lingayen Campus through the years.
Statement of the Problem
This study aims to determine the stakeholder satisfaction of the physical facilities in Pangasinan State University -Lingayen Campus.
Specifically, it seeks to answer the following questions;
1. What is the status of the physical plant ; facilities resources in terms of:
a. Physical Facilities within the campus;
b. Types of available and functional cleaning materials;
c. Maintenance / utility personnel;
d. Schedule of facilities and equipment maintenance ?
2. What is the profile of the students, parents, faculty member, non-teaching and alumni?
a. Age;
b. Sex;
c. Civil Status;
d. Year Graduated (if necessary);
e. Year/Course (if necessary);
f. Occupation/ Position (if necessary);?
2.What is the status of the physical plant ; facilities resources in terms of:
a. Physical Facilities within the campus;
b. Types of available and functional cleaning materials;
c. Maintenance / utility personnel;
d. Schedule of facilities and equipment maintenance ?
3.What is the level of satisfaction of the respondent to the physical facilities of PSU Lingayen Campus in terms of:
a.Campus;
b. Buildings;
c..Classrooms;
d. Offices and functional rooms;
e. Assembly and athletic Facilities;
f. Medical and Dental Clinic;
g. Student center; and
h. Food Services/Canteen?
4. What are the suggestions of the respondents to improve the physical facilities of Pangasinan State University- Lingayen Campus?
Significance of the Study
The primary purpose of this study is to determine the stakeholder’s satisfaction in the facilities of PSU Lingayen Campus. Furthermore, this study can greatly contribute to the knowledge and understanding of the following:
PSU Administrators. This study will be a great help for the administration in improving the different facilities of the university and specifically those that are directly used by the students whom the university primary serve.
Student. This study will inform the students of what are the physical facilities of university that need to improvement and will lead them to be more aware of their responsibilities in taking extra care of the different facilities that the university has.
Faculty Member. This study will help the teaching staff of PSU-LC to be comfortable on teaching the students. It may also burst a positive vibe to the instructor and also to the students if the room or other facilities are clean and comfortable.
Non-Teaching staff. This study will help the non-teaching staff of PSU-LC to do their job comfortably and the facility’s role can help create a positive environment.
Future Researchers. This study will provide future researchers with a framework as a guide for the conduct of similar studies with wider scope.
Scope and Delimitations
This study will determine the level of satisfaction of the stakeholders in terms of students, graduates from batch 2015, faculty members, non-teaching staff the physical facilities of Pangasinan State University- Lingayen Campus. The respondents of this study will be the, and parents. This study will be conduct using a set of questionnaire as an instrument in gathering data. Data inputs will be categorized into the following: the profile of the respondents, the level of satisfaction of the respondent to the PSU facilities in terms of Campus, Classrooms, Offices, Staff and function rooms, Assembly and Athletics facilities, Medical and Dental clinic, Students center, Food services/canteen, Buildings, the types of available and functional offices, types of available and functional cleaning materials, maintenance/utility personnel, schedule of facilities and equipment maintenance and the other functional facilities within the campus and the problems encountered by the respondents with regards to the PSU physical facilities. This study will be conducted during the year 2018. Definition of Terms To better understand the study, the following terms are defined operationally:
Physical facilities. These include all material resources that are needed to impart formal education. Physical facilities refer to site, campus, classrooms, offices, staff and function rooms, assembly and athletics facilities, medical and dental clinic, student center, and food services/ canteen.
Stakeholders. It refers to anyone who is invested in the welfare and success of a school and its students, including administrators, instructors, staff members, students and alumni.
PSU Lingayen Campus. It refers to the locale of the study which is a higher educational institution located in Lingayen, Pangasinan.
Classrooms. It refers to a room in school where lessons take place offices, staff and function rooms. It refers to administrative offices, faculty rooms and reception areas where needed.
Buildings. It is a man-made structure with a roof and walls standing more or less permanently in one place. It includes the legacy building, administrative building, convention hall, in PSU -Lingayen.
Assembly and athletics facilities. This refers to a building or place that provides a particular service and a place where athlete do their training.
Medical and dental clinic. It refers to the school’s facility in charge of protecting, promoting and maintaining the health and well- being of the students and school personnel.
Student center. It refers to a center for student activities at college or university.
Food services/ Canteen. It refers to the school facility that serves balanced yet affordable meals and snacks to school community.
