By selecting and analyzing from 100 articles regarding human resource management (HRM) and academic databases in a period of 30 years from 1984 to 2013, the authors present a theme about the current development of HRM in Vietnam in a term of economic development. On the other word, the authors narrow their study by making two questions about what the recent state of HRM development in Vietnam is as classified by HRM research in the past 30 years and how the changes of economic revolution and institutional environment affect Vietnamese HRM development. They start their study by analyzing institutional perspective in HRM researches in Western economies in order to identify the direction for studying HRM in Vietnam. In the next section, they describe the context of Vietnam after starting new policy to improve the economy, and they address the themes and concepts of previous empirical studies of HRM in Vietnam. The authors apply a semantic analysis with Leximancer technique to invest and synthesize data from 100 selected articles in order to show the changes of HRM in Vietnam in a 30-year period. In particular, they highlight these changes by dividing into three periods: 1984-1993, 1994-2003, and 2004-2013. In the first period, Vietnam concerns on building government’s management capacity; however, in the next periods Vietnam recognizes the vital roles of HRM in competing and developing the economy, thus Vietnam pays more attention in this concept. After all, the authors emphasize a number of suggestions for further research in terms of HRM, HR practice. This study offers an overview of how HRM in Vietnam changes in the past 30 years relating to ups and downs of the economy. Therefore, I have a systematic understanding of the importance and impacts of HRM.
