In this essay, you will acquire knowledge on what the Army values mean, how Soldiers apply them in everyday life, and the importance of the values. All Soldiers must live by the Army values. To be a part of the team you must uphold a certain standard. Since the day Soldiers arrive to Basic Combat Training, the Army Values are a prime set of moral virtues they must acquire. These values are a guide, which mold the essence of a Soldier.
Particularly, the seven Army values include loyalty, duty, respect, selfless service, honor, integrity, and personal courage. Each of these values have their own purpose and meaning. In reference to the Army, loyalty means, “To bear true faith and allegiance to the U.S Constitution, the Army, your unit and other Soldiers.” (Department of the Army, 2006 p.4-3) In other words, being loyal is to be dedicated to others. Duty means to, “Fulfill your obligations.” (Department of the Army, 2006 p.4-4) Simply put, duty is to have a responsibility that you must attain. Regarding respect, respect is to, treat others as you wish to be treated. Selfless service is to put the welfare of others before your own. Honor is to live up to and fulfill the Army values. Integrity is to do what is right without being told. Finally, personal courage means to boldly face your fears.
Theses Army Values consist of qualities that are essential for all Army leaders. They are the underlying guide to helping Soldiers survive through everyday task and missions. When a Soldier decides to take the oath of enlistment, they are showing that they are loyal to our Constitution and our Army. Taking the Oath of Enlistment further proves that Soldiers are committed. Furthermore, Soldiers are often tasked to do things that they do not like doing every day, but because they are loyal to their leadership that task at hand are still completed. Soldiers show duty every day, simply by showing up to work or their place of duty on time and doing what needs to be done.
