Also known as Jerome Big Eagle, Wambditanka was born in 1827 in Black Dog’s village, a few miles above Mendota on the south bank of the Minnesota River. By 1858 had moved to the Redwood Agency to farm. When war broke out he joined the fighting and was at the battles of New Ulm, Fort Ridgely, Birch Coulee, and Wood Lake. Born in 1827, Eagan, MN, died 1906, Granite Falls, MN, other names Wanbdí Tánka, Jerome Big Eagle. The Indians wanted to live as they did before the treaty of Traverse des Sioux–go wherever they could find it, sell their furs to the traders and live as they could. The whites wouldn’t let them go to war against their enem A war broke out and then he ended up joining the fight. After the fight he was convicted by the military commision. After several years living on reservations, him and his family went back to Minnesota where he ended up dying in 1906. The whites were always trying to make them give up their life and live like white men. The whites would not let them go to war against their enemies.

If they would of tried to make the white live like them, they would of resisted. They wanted to live as they did before the treaty of Traverse.
