Abstract
Suicide among veterans is an ongoing phenomenon, that is steadily increasing. According to statistics at least 22 veterans a day commit suicide. Young veterans from ages 18-44 are the most at risk. Suicide not only affects just families but also the society. Healthcare professionals need to acknowledge the history of a veteran patient to identify the key factors that lead to suicidal thoughts, regardless of age. Transitioning back into civilian life is hard among military veterans. If veterans don’t receive the appropriate needs for mental and physical safety concerns, then they are even more at risk for suicidal tendencies. Death by suicide is always preventable, we just need to reach out and be aware of any signs.
