• Rapport establishment: Before starting the testing session, it was ensured that subjects were seated comfortably in a room where there was no outside disturbance. Then the rapport was established by talking to them in a relaxed, friendly, or unofficial manner. After that the subject was instructed to read each and every statement very and to respond alternately to each category to which they would represent their true feelings.

The selected tools were administered one by one with small intervals. All the instructions regarding the tools were given according to instructions led by the author of the test.

Then socio-demographic information was collected from the sample.

After that the data of Wong and Law Emotional Intelligence Scale – (WLEIS) was collected in the method of a semi structured interview. In case of normal individuals data collection technique was very easy as they understood the whole process properly. But in case of schizophrenic patients and cannabis addicts it was very difficult to me to collect the data as they were not in their conscious state of mind to answer to my questions. So before collecting data I observed them, I talked to them and learnt how to make a friendly relation with them. I counseled every subject individually and by doing that I have also learned a little bit about the process of counseling. Though schizophrenic patients and cannabis addicts cannot answer these questions by themselves, so I have helped them in doing so by asking each and every question one by one to them. Here, every subject was asked to answer the questions regarding their self- emotion appraisal, others’ emotion appraisal, and use of emotion and regulation of emotion. It is self-report test containing 16 items. They has been instructed to circle or give a tick mark only one option besides each statement from these 5 options (1 = strongly disagree, 2= disagree, 3=neither agree nor disagree, 4=agree, 5=strongly agree) to which they thought best suited to themselves. There was no time limit; however, they were instructed to complete the questionnaire as early as possible. In this way, data has been collected from all of 150 subjects regarding their emotional intelligence.

Finally, the Big Five Inventory (BFI) was administered to the samples. It is self-report test containing 44 items. Here, every subject was asked to read each and every statement very carefully maintaining their serial order. These statements concern their perception about themselves in a variety of situations. So the subjects have to express their feelings regarding their openness, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness and neurotic nature. Then the subjects were asked to indicate the strength of their agreement with each statement, utilizing a scale. It is a 5-point scale. They has been instructed to write down the option number besides each statement from this 5-point scale in which 1 = strongly disagree, 2= disagree, 3=neither agree nor disagree, 4=agree, 5=strongly agree, to which they thought best suited to themselves. There was no time limit; however, they were instructed to complete the questionnaire as early as possible. In this way, data has been collected from all of 150 subjects regarding their personality type.

After the completion of data collection all the copies of response sheets were arranged properly. Finally, the scored were analyzed with the help of scoring key and necessary calculations were done with the help of SPSS (Statistical Package of Social Sciences).

? DATA COLLECTION: All the subjects were selected purposively. The subjects were selected from the normal population of Tripura and Patients from Modern Psychiatric Hospital, Narsingarh, Agartala. Data were divided in three groups i.e., 50 normal individuals, 50 schizophrenic patients and 50 cannabis addicts.

? STATISTICAL TECHNIQUES FOR DATA ANALYSIS:

After collecting the responses from all of the subjects, the data sheets were checked carefully. Scores of both scales (Wong and Law Emotional Intelligence Scale – Bengali translated version (WLEIS) and BIG FIVE INVENTORY- Bengali translated version (BFI)) has been calculated for Normal individuals, Schizophrenics, Cannabis addicts, using recommended methods. These results ; findings are then compared with various other findings available in literature. For data analysis of Emotional Intelligence and Personality among the total sample, descriptive statistics i.e., mean, SD were used. BIVARIATE CORRELATION was used to assess the relationship between Emotional Intelligence and Personality among the total sample.
